HOW A CHILD LEARNS TO SIT UP

Conditions necessary for quality sleep

The baby's sleep should not last less than the norm. Parents should adhere to certain rules so that their newborn baby sleeps soundly and does not suffer from sleep deficiency:

  1. It is necessary to follow a strict schedule. We must not forget that the child must sleep during the day.

Note! Going to bed late disrupts the quality of your night's rest.

  1. Before putting the child to bed, so-called rituals are very important - repeated actions that promote sleep. This could be a warm bath, a light massage, or singing a lullaby.
  2. If possible, the child’s crib should be located in a room other than the one where he is played with. The room should be quiet, cozy and ventilated. Children react very poorly to external stimuli such as bright lights and noise. There should not be them at all in the children's room.
  3. Nighttime comfort depends on temperature. The optimal thermometer readings in a children's room are from 20 to 22 degrees. At night it is allowed to reduce them to 18 degrees. Air humidity should be within 60%.
  4. There should be no electronic devices in the room where the baby sleeps.
  5. The room should be pleasantly dim.
  6. To get a good night's sleep, your child must be sufficiently active during the day, otherwise he will not be able to fall asleep. The younger the child, the less time it takes for him to accumulate fatigue while awake.
  7. Family quarrels and scandals have a negative impact on the quality of sleep. The baby has trouble falling asleep in families where there is constant emotional stress.
  8. Children sleep much better if they feel loved by their parents. It helps them relax and get a good night's sleep.
  9. The baby does not need to be put into the crib immediately after feeding. Before putting him to bed, he needs to be held in an upright position for several minutes. This will allow the baby to burp out excess air.
  10. The baby doesn't need a pillow. He should also not put diapers under his head.

Newborn sleeps without a pillow

  1. The baby should not be swaddled. A child wrapped in cloth cannot feel his limbs. In addition, swaddling disrupts normal blood circulation and leads to discomfort. The best clothes for a baby are overalls.

Note! It is absolutely normal for a baby to get up at night, even at the age of six months. By the time he is one year old, he can sleep normally through the night without waking up.

When a baby sleeps on his side

Typically, babies sleep on their backs. At the same time, their palms are slightly clenched into a fist, their legs are bent at the knees and spread apart, their heads are turned to the side. However, a small child can sleep on his side.

The baby should be placed in this position from the age of three months. Don’t forget to put a roll of rolled up towels under the backrest. When the baby lies on his side, he presses his legs towards his stomach to expel intestinal gases. It is advisable to additionally wear scratches.

Sleeping on your side

Attention! When the baby begins to sleep on his side, it is necessary to regularly change the position of his body so that torticollis does not develop.

A baby should not be placed on its side until it is 3 months old. In this position, the baby can roll over onto his tummy. A sleeping one-month or two-month-old child cannot lift his head or roll over. In addition, a sleeping baby may bury his nose or mouth in a pillow, blanket or sheet and suffocate.

How to properly teach to roll over from your stomach?

The period when the baby begins to crawl depends on how quickly and correctly learning to roll over occurs.

Typically, crawling occurs soon after the development of this skill, so you should not be surprised when the baby crawls on his own.

An important procedure is teaching a newborn to roll over from his tummy:

  1. Place the baby stomach down, you yourself are behind the baby. Show the toy in front of your face, make it so that the baby can reach it with his hand. As soon as the baby tries to take it, slowly move the object up and to the left. Following the movements of the hand, the baby will easily roll over.
  2. The second exercise completely copies the task with which it is necessary to teach a child to roll over onto his stomach. It must be done the other way around - place the baby on his tummy, cross his left leg behind his right. Let your child grab a finger - this will provoke a coup.
  3. Briefly pick up your baby while he is lying on his stomach. It is important that the baby pushes himself away from the crib with his hands. Movements should not be sudden, everything is done smoothly.

Dr. Komarovsky argues that a child’s reluctance to roll over is not always a developmental deviation.

The reasons for this phenomenon may be individual characteristics of temperament, nuances of physique, prematurity, and excessive fatness.

Important! A thin and flexible baby begins to roll over much earlier than his plump counterpart: this is not a reason to panic.

Don’t be nervous about your baby’s reluctance to develop this skill; it’s better to use these recommendations and exercises to smoothly guide your baby to the start of development.

Is it possible to sleep on your side?

How much should a 1.5 month old baby sleep?

Physiologically, a child can sleep in any position. He intuitively chooses the one that best suits him. However, a newborn baby will sleep in the position that the parents have chosen for him - he is too small to roll over, and his need for sleep is quite large.

The side position is safe enough for the baby if the parents are sure that he will not be able to turn onto his stomach. To protect the baby from this, you should lay him on a “half side”. Place a folded towel or thin blanket under the backrest.

Lying on his side, the child sometimes tucks his legs toward his stomach. There is no need to be afraid of this position - this way, intestinal gases are released much better, and thus the condition of colic is alleviated.

Until the age of six months, the baby can be gently turned from one side to the other. This will contribute to the harmonious development of the musculoskeletal system. You should not leave your baby on one side for a long time.

As children grow older, they gradually learn to roll over on their own in the crib. By the age of ten months, the child himself finds the most comfortable position for rest: on his side, stomach or back.

Attention! When resting during the day, it is necessary to change sides during each laying down.

Possible benefits and harms

According to doctors, sleeping on your side is one of the best options. Then the child will not suffer from intestinal colic. If you vomit, there is no risk of choking. The position, lying on the left side, significantly alleviates the baby's condition with colic.

It is useful to place children who have digestive problems and often spit up in a position on their side. Those children who suffer from intestinal colic also feel great on their sides. In this position, the legs are pressed against the stomach, and gases easily leave the intestines.

The potential harm of baby sleeping on his side for up to four months is that his arms are near his head and he may scratch himself. To prevent this from happening, you should put scratch pads on your fists.

It is forbidden to place a child on his side if he has hip dysplasia. In this case, the load on them increases significantly. The side lying position can also be dangerous for premature babies.

Why can a child arch his back?

  1. The child arches when he is uncomfortable lying in the crib.
Either he had been lying in one position for too long, or perhaps his sheets were wet or wrinkled. Arching may be a reaction to a stiff sheet or scratchy blanket. If the baby is uncomfortable, he shows it in every way. And trying to stand on the bridge is one of these ways. See what is bothering your baby and fix it.
  2. This may be caused by his desire to understand the world around him.
For example, a baby sees some interesting toy or bright object and wants to take a better look at it and reach it. Then he arches and groans. There's nothing wrong with that, just help him find a comfortable position or move the toy closer and give it to him.
  3. The child may arch his back and fall onto his side. This is how he learns a new movement and masters turning onto his back.
At the same time, he grunts especially loudly.
  4. Very often the child arches and throws his head back while lying in his mother’s arms. This happens when feeding. The baby may be capricious when he’s full, but he doesn’t want to tear himself away from his mother’s breast. Then you need to figure out how to distract him.
  5. Another reason is that the child does not like the taste of milk or its quality.
He will throw his head back when feeding and squat. This problem can be solved by analyzing your own nutrition. Mom needs to make sure that her menu contains all the necessary substances and products that the child requires.

Frequent arching is not at all beneficial for a child; he can damage his back. The baby's muscles are still weak, they can stretch and form incorrectly. Therefore, you need to stop the child’s frequent whims, distract him, and switch his attention to games or interesting objects. When he wants to look at something, put it in a comfortable position, turn it over when he wants it.

Do not ignore such acrobatic exercises in your baby, otherwise it can lead to problems in adolescence and young adulthood. Such problems include osteochondrosis, migraine, insomnia, vegetative-vascular dystonia, flat feet, even epileptic seizures. It is important to see the problem in time and eliminate it; the child’s health is in your hands.

After the birth of a baby, various problems lie in wait that accompany all children on the path of development. Moms and dads face one of these troubles when they see their baby arching his back. This phenomenon, accompanied by crying, can occur for several reasons. Some of them are absolutely safe, but others can be harmful to the health and development of the newborn.

.

  1. The child is naughty

Due to the fact that at an early age children cannot yet change their position on their own, they often cry to show their parents that they want to change it. They may also need help to reach a toy, or in this way to show that they are hungry, or, conversely, that they are full. To calm the baby, you need to switch his attention to another thing or phenomenon, help him roll over, talk to him affectionately.

  1. Learning new movements

If the arching of the back is not accompanied by crying, and the baby simply grunts, he may simply be mastering the technique of rolling onto his stomach on his own.

Sleeping positions

How should a newborn baby sleep in a crib?

Children can sleep in other positions:

  1. Sleeping on the stomach creates a feeling of security for an infant. It strengthens the muscles of the neck and back, improves normal blood supply to the brain, and prevents the development of hip dysplasia. This pose activates the digestive system and promotes normal digestion of mother's milk. Such sleep should not be allowed until the baby reaches three months of age. Even during the fourth month, you should not abuse this position.

Sleeping on your stomach

  1. Sleeping on your back is the safest and most beneficial. At the same time, the head turns in the most convenient direction, the baby will not be able to throw it back. In this position, the limbs move freely, the airways are not compressed. Sometimes children may make chaotic movements, which is normal.
  2. The half-side position is also natural and beneficial for a newborn. It promotes the effective removal of intestinal gases.
  3. Sleeping in the fetal position is natural for a baby between one week and one month of age. After this age, it is not worth putting the baby in this way. The pose disrupts normal blood circulation.

Note! If the baby independently assumes the fetal position, this indicates increased muscle tone. Sometimes he may throw his head back. This indicates the development of dangerous diseases.

  1. The position of the head above the body is not suitable for babies to sleep during the day or at night. In children, the skull may be deformed, the spine will be bent, and colic may occur. Sometimes such a dream ends in sudden infant death syndrome.

Baby's sound sleep

The quality of your baby's sleep depends on the position you choose. If your baby sleeps on his side, this is normal. However, parents should place the baby in other positions to promote the harmonious development of the musculoskeletal system.
